There is no sugar coating it. Cancer sucks. It affects everyone, from young to old, males to females, rich to poor. It does not care what you do for a living. It could care less about your five-year plan. Cancer sucks.
Sadly, everyone is or knows someone who is affected by some strand of cancer. Positively, there are many charities and foundations that provide support and fund-raise.
The purpose of this virtual 5k is to provide awareness, not just for one cancer, but for them all. ALL proceeds will go to the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation, the Cancer Research Institute, and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. (All three have extremely high ratings amongst other cancer charities.)
All runners will receive a custom-made “Five k for Cancer” race medal and a “Cancer Sucks” silicone bracelet shipped on or after World Cancer Day, the day of the event.
Racers will run 5k (3.1 miles) anywhere and log their time.
Because this is a MEAN GUY running event, there is a mathematical twist. The runner closest to the average race time will be declared the winner. He/she will win a year-long MEAN GUY running membership and a swag bag full of MGr apparel.
